Maya Deren was an american film-maker of Russian origin who made "experimental" movies from the 40's to the 60's. The sample in this song is her voice. It says: "I do not seek to possess the major portion of your days. I am content if, on those rare ocasions whose truth can be stated only by poetry, you will, perhaps, recall an image, even only the aura of my films. And what more could I possibly ask, as an artist, than that your most precious visions, however rare, assume, sometimes, the forms of my images."
"No és una línia recta" was recorded at the studio and at home in equal parts. Rubén of Pupille plays one of the guitars. He listened to the base of the song a couple of times and then improvised. We built the melody and the rest of the song starting from there. The samples in this song are from very different sources: a priest's speech, a manipulated fragment of Lou Reed's most hated album (Metal Machine Music) and a strings sound stolen from a Robert Gerhard symphony. The voice at the end is Adela's.
Txargorri is dedicated to Pupille, the other cow. The trumpet sample was recorded during the "Miércoles Santo" procession in Tarragona. After hours of drumming, all the pasos (images of the saints carried by people during the feastings of Semana Santa) stop: a guy with a long golden horn steps ahead and prepares to culminate the event. The city major, the local authorities and the priest await solemnly. But every hint of solemnity disappeared when that dubious centurion blew his horn. Casually, we had gone there to record the drum rhythms.
